List of Sony CD’s with root-kit

A list, albeit not a complete list, of CD’s with the root-kit from Sony and BMG.

For those of you who do not know what a rootkit is it is a technology used by hackers to hide code from the operating system. So basically what Sony has done here is hidden it’s copy protection software so you cannot remove it.

Click on the link below and check to see if you have any of the CDs on the list. I was suprised to see bands such as Switchfoot on the list, but they have no control over what Sony does. They were actually telling their fans how to get around the copy protection. If you do have one of these CDs and you remember a poppup window asking to install software when you put the CD in the drive AND YOU CLICKED YES then you probably have this evil software installed. Noticing any blue-screen problems lately or issues with your CD or DVD drive? This program could be the culprit.

My Next Laptop: IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet

I was looking over the KDE Look feed in akregator (a RSS feed tool in KDE) and opened up a splash screen that I thought looked good in Get Firefox!. I clicked on a google ad, to help support sites I like, and came upon a site called eLucis which sells linux distros on cd and dvd. I thought that site was decent so I then processed to click on another google ad that took me to the EmperorLinux, Inc. website where they are selling the IBM thinkpad X41 tablet. This laptop looks so sweeeeet! It could be used as a mobile digi-pad to work in gimp/photoshop as well as your normal tablet pc for writing notes etc. It’s thin enough that it is not a pain and EmperorLinux goes through all the pain of customizing the kernel so that all functions of the laptop work great when you get it, even the fingerprinting login system works! So with all that said. This is my next laptop. When my business starts making a little bit more in the next month or so I will be ordering this badboy. Check it out for yourself.

Second Sonigram Pictures

Well we finally got to go to our second sonigram. This one was the one were we could find out the sex of our baby. Apparently our little one is a fiesty bugger because the doctor could not figure it out. He said our baby was very active and never seperated his/her legs. So we will have a mystery baby!
The baby is healthy so that is all we are concerned about. You can check out the pictures on the pix page or just click on the image.

Mac Musings

mac g5
Check out MacMusings for alot of great articles in helping figure out which Mac to buy. My friend Carol is looking into buying a new Mac and is looking at the slightly older Dual 2.0Ghz G5 machines. They look so awesome and are really fast machines. She uses it for video editing and DVD authoring. This will be a big step up from her Dual 450Mhz G4! I hope she is able to get it sooner than later 🙂

Why do people switch to Linux?

There was some interesting comments in this article about users switching to linux. Makes me think back to when I started using linux for the first time in 1997. It was RedHat 5.2 disk I got from Sams Learn Linux in 24 hours. I’ve had to use other OSs since, but have been using linux as my main OS every since.

During the last month, we conducted a survey of readers who use Linux. We asked them why they switched to Linux and received a plethora of answers. Surprisingly, anti-Microsoft sentiment had less to do with the choice than one might imagine.
